There is no better place in the world to balance your life. The best climate in America; an active and welcoming business community; rich cultural offerings and the finest entertainment, including top professional and collegiate sports, music and recreation. The quality of life in Greater Miami is outstanding.

Miami affords a wondrous lifestyle with a sub-tropical climate, an azure sea, golden beaches, and an eclectic mix of culture, language, and heritage. While Miami is a community of neighborhoods, each and every one offers excitement and fun in what we might call an original “urban paella” that is cherished by all. You will find all Miamians have a passionate appetite for life, work, and play.

As a result, the Arts and Cultural community in Miami flourishes. The cultural aspects of Miami are second to none, and can arguably be called the most diverse and vibrant of any urban area in the United States. And investments continue, as evidenced by the construction underway of the ultra-modern Performing Arts Center in downtown Miami. Every minute of every day can be filled with the endless possibilities afforded by the arts and cultural community in Miami.

Consider the rich history and importance of our cutting edge performing arts and theatre, the rhythm and beat of our music of every genre, from the sensuous Latin beat, to hip-hop, to classical symphonic masterpieces; our diverse and impressive museums and collections, our magnificent galleries and artisan community, our creative dance companies. Miami makes beautiful noise, thoughtful reflection, a soothing palette of color, tropical elegance, and joyous celebration at every turn.

Sports in Miami cover every interest and competitive spirit you can imagine. The term “sports enthusiast's dream” applies here. Hometown heroes include our champion professional sports teams the Miami Dolphins, Florida Marlins, Miami Heat, and the Florida Panthers. Each November, NASCAR racing comes to Miami to crown champions in the Craftsman Truck, Busch Series and Nextel Cup at Homestead-Miami Raceway. Open wheel competition roars at the raceway in the warm winter months.

The winter season is also a great time for golf and tennis fans. The PGA Tour begins its southern swing at the Ford Championship at Doral. It's followed by the NASDAQ 100 Open tennis tournament on Key Biscayne.

Our collegiate teams, such as the University of Miami Hurricanes, feature perennially nationally-ranked teams in many sports. Friday evenings in Miami are as exciting as any, as our high schools, public and private, compete across the neighborhood landscape.

Our venues are among the most famous of all: The Orange Bowl, Dolphins' Stadium, and the American Airlines Arena, known as the “Triple A” in the local lingo. Our golf courses, magnificent parks, and literally hundreds of other venues, public and private, provide endless options for sports enthusiasts of any type.

Then, there is the sea, and the sand, and the sun. World class sport fishing, world class beaches, and world class boating and marine facilities are natural extensions of life in Miami.

Perhaps life here is best described by the late Ralph Renick -- a respected, innovative news anchor - who read a letter on New Year's Eve in 1981, from the late author, Damon Runyon, to his friend and movie producer, Bill, explaining why he was remaining in South Florida and not returning to California to write a movie script. The letter boasted of the marvels of the city, beaches, and community of South Florida, expressing an incomparable love for this community.

“We've got sand in our shoes. The truth of the matter is Bill, it's pretty difficult to explain that to anyone who doesn't know what it means. It means a land covered with sunlight... warm and soft. It means pink and white houses... and purple bougainvillea and scarlet hibiscus... It means palm trees... big fat porpoises playing in Biscayne Bay... and folks fishing from the bridges all day. Slim pale yachts and bustling motorboats, and hundreds of little sails fluttering like white butterflies over the water. Big smug liners and the battered freighters. Friendly faces - and never too big a hurry. And the skyline of the city with twinkling lights embroidered against a velvety moon glow... turquoise blue waters of the ocean lapping against white beaches and always the sun shining down in kindly warmth... Bill, Sand in Your Shoes means...well it means Sand in Your Shoes...that's what it means.”
